Do I need to attend classes regularly?

It is essential that classes are attended consistently. If students frequently miss classes, it is difficult for them to catch up on what they may have missed and it is also difficult for other students to work around those who are missing. At RDS we encourage students to have a healthy sense of commitment. We believe this is a fundamental life skill instilled in children by studying dance. We encourage students to attend their classes regularly and firmly believe that this consistency is essential in developing confident, accomplished young dancers.

 

What’s the earliest age a dancer can start?

Classes at RDS begin at 18 months old. Our toddler class is called ‘Mini Movers.’

 

How do I know which class to enrol my child in?
Dancers at RDS are placed in classes based on their Grade/Year Level at school. Specific class offerings broken down by school year level can be found 

 

How long is the year?

We offer a 4 Term season that follows the school year calendar, running from February - until our recital in November.

 

How do I enrol my child for a class?

Registration for new dancers and returning students can be completed via our 

 

How do I pay my tuition/fees?

Termly tuition/fees are paid with cash or via bank transfer. Invoices and Envelopes are distributed at the start of each term and payment must be made by the end of the term. 

 

Are there any other expenses outside of tuition/fees?
At RDS our termly fees are all inclusive. The only other cost incurred by families include optional uniforms, compulsory dance shoes and tickets to our end of year recital. 

 

Where can I purchase dance wear/uniforms?
Sports Power Swan Hill stock basic dance wear including jazz and ballet shoes. Our RDS uniform from ‘Activated Industries’ can be ordered during Term 1 of every year and arrive at the start of Term 2. 

 

Can my dancer try out a class before enrolling?

Yes, of course they can! Just contact us to arrange a trial class. 

 

I missed the January Enrolment, can I still enrol?

Yes, we accept new dancers through to the end of Term 2.

 

Can I watch my child in class?

During weekly classes parents are not permitted in the main studio. You can however, view classes from the glass doors in the foyer. The last week of every term is ‘Viewing Week’ where the dancers can bring family and friends to watch them during their entire class in the main studio. 

My dancer is older and has no dance experience, are there classes for him/her?

We have classes for students of all ages and ability levels. Please contact us so we can help identify where the best place to start is.

 

Do you offer classes for boys?
Boys are welcome to enrol in any of our dance classes. At RDS we value inclusiveness. We had over 10 boys enrolled in 2021.

 

Do you offer classes for adults?

YES! We have an adult Dance Fitness class that runs in blocks throughout the year. Contact us for more info!

 

Are there classes on public holidays? 

No. There are no classes on public holidays unless by special arrangement.

 

Why do I have to do a ballet class to do contemporary?

Contemporary dance at RDS includes technique that is taught and developed in ballet classes. The poise, balance, and control required for successful ballet performances make it easier to master contemporary dance. 

 

Is there a second hand clothing/uniforms available?

Yes! Once you have enrolled at RDS you can join the RDS Second Hand Dance Wear/Uniforms group on Facebook and pick up some used dance wear items at a reduced price. These are also available to view at the studio in Term 1.

 

When can my child start pointe work?

A strong dancer with great technique, who has been taking ballet classes for many years can go onto pointe when they are approximately Year 7. The average age of starting pointe work is 12 - 15 years of age and is a decision made by our extremely qualified and experienced ballet teacher on an individual basis to ensure your child is safe and not at risk of injury.
